How to Care for Your Dentures

Types of Dentures We Offer

- Full (complete) dentures — replace all of the teeth in an upper or lower arch when no natural teeth remain, resting on the gums to restore your bite and your smile.
- Partial dentures — fill in one or more gaps when some healthy natural teeth remain, using discreet clasps or connectors that also help keep the surrounding teeth from shifting.
- Implant-supported dentures and overdentures — snap onto or are held by dental implants for added stability and a more secure bite when you want less movement than a traditional removable denture.

- Consultation and impressions — Dr. Bistritz examines your gums and any remaining teeth, discusses your options, and takes digital or traditional impressions so your denture can be built to fit.
- Custom fabrication — your denture is crafted to your measurements, and you help choose a tooth shade and shape that look natural for your smile and facial features.
- Fitting and adjustments — the finished denture is placed, your bite is checked, and small adjustments are made so it feels as comfortable and secure as possible.
- Follow-up — as your gums and bone settle over time, follow-up visits let Dr. Bistritz fine-tune the fit and, when needed, reline the denture.

Adjusting to and Caring for Your Dentures
A short adjustment period is normal with new dentures. For the first few weeks many patients notice more saliva, minor soreness, or that eating and speaking take some practice — this typically eases as your mouth adapts. Start with softer foods, cut them into smaller pieces, and if a sore spot lingers, a quick adjustment at our office usually resolves it.
- Clean daily — brush your dentures with a soft denture brush and a non-abrasive cleaner, and rinse them after meals.
- Remove at night if advised — many patients take their dentures out to sleep and soak them, giving the gums a chance to rest.
- Handle carefully — clean them over a folded towel or a basin of water so they are protected if dropped.
