Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Aventura Dental Center blog!
We are your trusted source for restorative dentistry solutions in Florida. This includes the best possible treatment for tooth loss as an adult: dental implants.
To help you better understand the implant process, in today’s post, we’re going to take a closer look at dental implants, how they work, and the ways in which they can replicate the look, feel, and function of your original set of teeth.
To learn more, keep reading, and then be sure to get in touch with our Aventura team to schedule your consultation with Dr. Bistritz! You’ll be glad that you did!
What Are Dental Implants?
Implants are nothing like the artificial teeth your grandparents had. Modern dental implants are made of of a metal called titanium. Titanium is the metal of choice because it bonds to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. It makes a union that is, in some cases, stronger than your real teeth.
Our Implants are made to mimic the function that a natural tooth root would perform in your mouth. Implants look kind of like a little screw because of the way they are threaded.
This is what allows us to attach caps, abutments, and oral appliances to them so that you will look like your old self.
You will appreciate that, if properly taken care of, a dental implant will be a permanent solution for all of your smile woes.
What About The Placement Process?
A simple surgery will take you where you want to go. Simply put, the implants are screwed into your jaw, where they are allowed to heal and bond to the bone over the course of 2-3 months.
Once the site is healed, Dr. Bistritz will bond the artificial tooth to the implant’s abutment. You’ll get a tooth that’s indistinguishable from any natural tooth. The implant fits snugly in place, helping prevent the buildup of food that bacteria love so much. Plus, by filling the space down to the jawbone, the implant will keep the bone healthy.
Do Implants Act Like Teeth?
Implant act just like teeth and, like we said, they are far better than the options that existed in earlier eras. They distribute biting force just like natural teeth, allowing you to get back on track fast.
What Are Mini Dental Implants?
Because dental implants are held in place by your jawbone, you need bone underneath the empty space that is strong and thick enough to hold the implant safely.
Not everyone has that, either because the bone is just naturally thin there, or the space has remained empty for so long that the bone has started to deteriorate.
If a regular implant won’t work, you might be able to use a mini dental implant. The artificial tooth will still fit securely in the gap and look normal. But the root’s diameter is much smaller, meaning you can get away with much less bone for the smaller root to go into. Mini dental implants aren’t as strong as regular ones, but it’s still a good option if traditionally sized implants won’t work.

Dental implants make you look better but they are more than just a cosmetic dentistry treatment. Implants can actually help prevent disease and decay, make it easier to eat the food you love, and even protect your jawbone from deterioration.
