Aventura Dental Center offers dental bonding and contouring to correct cosmetic issues such as cracked, chipped, or stained teeth. Dental bonding is one of the easiest dental procedures to perform because it utilizes a liquid resin that conforms nicely to the tooth. This treatment is also ideal for improving subtle imperfections like small gaps between teeth. Dental contouring reshapes the edges of the tooth to make it shorter, smoother, and more symmetrical. Even minor contouring can make a big difference in the look of your smile. Call our Aventura, FL office to schedule an appointment with our skilled dentist, Dr. David Bistritz.
What to Expect
Dental bonding and contouring is usually quick and comfortable, so it can be performed in our office with little or no anesthesia. To prepare the tooth for proper bonding, Dr. Bistritz will etch the top layer of the tooth and apply a conditioning gel. Before it is applied, the resin itself is matched to the patient's natural tooth color and carefully painted onto the enamel. A special light is used to harden and cure the resin until the it fully covers the treatment area. One the resin is set, Dr. Bistritz can polish and buff the surface of the tooth to make the bond smooth and even. The natural tooth can also be polished and contoured with special dental instruments to remove sharp edges and even out the top layer.
Patients may find that their newly bonded and contoured teeth feel a little weird at first, but they gradually become accustomed to the new shape and feeling. To prolong the lift of dental bonding, patients should attend regular dental visits for cleanings and exams, and maintain a good home care routine with brushing and flossing. After bonding and contouring treatments, patients should avoid staining foods, dark drinks, and smoking as it can wear on the teeth. With good care, bonding and contouring can last 3 – 10 years before another treatment may be needed to maintain results.
If dental bonding and contouring is needed to fix a tooth, dental insurance may cover some of the cost. If the procedure is only for cosmetic improvement, insurance will not cover the cost. Based on your needs, our office will determine what your dental insurance will cover and what will be charged to you directly. We offer many payment and financing options to make dental bonding and contouring affordable for our patients.
